Marian Clode, a 61-year-old primary school teacher from Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, tragically died in a workplace accident involving a cow. The incident occurred on April 3, 2016, while she was on a family holiday at Swinhoe Farm in Northumberland.
Marian Clode and her family were walking along a public bridleway when they encountered a group of cows that had escaped from the farm. The cows were being moved from winter sheds to summer grazing fields by the farm workers. Unfortunately, several cows with calves escaped and charged at Mrs. Clode, who was at the front of the group. She was tossed over a gate by one of the cows and suffered fatal injuries. Despite being taken to a hospital in Newcastle, she died three days later.
The farming company, JM Nixon and Son, admitted to failing to ensure the safety of a non-employee and was fined £72,500 for the incident. The court described her death as an avoidable tragedy and emphasized the importance of implementing effective safety measures to prevent such incidents.
